Alfred de Musset (1810-1857), one of the principal Romantic writers of France, produced in his short life quite a lot in the way of poetry and plays. A principal inspiration for them was personal, not to say autobiographical. In his twenties he was one in the series of lovers of George Sand, and this relationship is reflected in more than one of his works.
