Jacques Demy (1931-1990) is a French film-maker, one of those associated with the so-called Nouvelle Vague of the 1960s. He was married to Agnès Varda, also an important film director. He had a special interest in the genre we English-speakers would call "musical comedy." His important titles include: Lola (1961), Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (1964), Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (1967), and Peau d'âne (1970).
