Some may wonder why the partitive article des introducing choses nulles does not get “reduced” to de, as seemingly it should following a negative adverb (see the rule here). The reason is that, for the rule to apply, the negation has to be absolute. In this case, however, the negation is not absolute: God does create things (des choses), just not things that are nulles.
