The Angel of Death is outside, proceeding on its way to slay the first-born of the Egyptians—see Exodus 12—which slaughter the Israelites are protected from by lambs’ blood smeared on their doorposts and lintels. Chuck Heston pronounces the last three words “let Death pass” very loudly and sternly, which I have tried to convey by using the “third-person imperative” (see here).
